Ohio's education system

Ohio's public education system is outlined in Article 6 of the State Constitution and Title XXXIII of the Ohio Revised Code. In substance, Ohio's system is similar to that found in other states. At the state level, the Ohio Department of Education, overseen by the Ohio Board of Education, administers primary and secondary education institutions. At the municipal level, there are approximately 700 school districts statewide. The Ohio Board coordinates and supports Ohio's institutions of higher education recently reorganized into the Ohio University System under Governor Strickland. The system enrolls an average of over 400,000 students annually, making it one of the five largest state university systems in the United States.
